Yesterday the judges met with teams to discuss any potential penalties and we learned that we do not have any penalties, hoorah! Of course, that means we are eligible for the infamous Turtle award given to the team who finishes last amongst the teams with no penalties.
After breakfast at the hotel we went out to the airport for a community event and for a dedication of a plaque to Dorothy Rungeling who was a racer from the area who passed away last year at 104 years old. While hanging at the airport, I had a little fun. See photos below - thanks Cynthia Lee for the amazing pictures!!
Then last night we went back to the airport at 11pm to pick-up team 10 who had a mechanical issue and was unable to finish the race on time but got the plane fixed in time to come to the terminus.
Plaque dedicated to Dorothy
In case you don't recognize it, that's a skydiving outfit.
My tandem instructor Rob. He was awesome and entertaining.
Had great support from some folks on the ground who preferred to stay in the airplane and fly it.
We were at 12,500 feet when we jumped. Had beautiful views of lakes Erie, Ontario and Niagara Falls. Cynthia Lee took this photo from the ground. We were almost two miles in the air. That is some camera lense!!
Wohoo! On final, coming in for a landing!
Race planes parked at night at the airport. Well lit and under the watchful eye of Gavin, the son of Peter, one of the co-stop chairs.
Hoorah, our adopted baby birds, team #10 finally made it!
There was a small welcoming committee for them. Thanks to Gavin (front of plane) and all the other folks who were there at 11pm.
