The results are in!

Well we came in 11th place, .167 mph behind the tenth place medal finishers. We feel good that our wait it out strategy was the right one because two of the other teams that did the same thing finished in the top ten. We just made some tactical mistakes in our execution.

The good news is, we won four leg prizes - three first place prizes and one third place prize. Below are some photos from the banquet and of our prizes. It was a good race and a good time was had by all. Thank you to all the volunteers.....I can't say that enough!

See ya next year everyone, thank for following!

The venue and views for the banquet were beautiful.

Fun times in Welland

Yesterday the judges met with teams to discuss any potential penalties and we learned that we do not have any penalties, hoorah! Of course, that means we are eligible for the infamous Turtle award given to the team who finishes last amongst the teams with no penalties.

After breakfast at the hotel we went out to the airport for a community event and for a dedication of a plaque to Dorothy Rungeling who was a racer from the area who passed away last year at 104 years old. While hanging at the airport, I had a little fun. See photos below - thanks Cynthia Lee for the amazing pictures!!

Then last night we went back to the airport at 11pm to pick-up team 10 who had a mechanical issue and was unable to finish the race on time but got the plane fixed in time to come to the terminus.

In case you don't recognize it, that's a skydiving outfit.

My tandem instructor Rob. He was awesome and entertaining.

Had great support from some folks on the ground who preferred to stay in the airplane and fly it.

We were at 12,500 feet when we jumped. Had beautiful views of lakes Erie, Ontario and Niagara Falls. Cynthia Lee took this photo from the ground. We were almost two miles in the air. That is some camera lense!!

Wohoo! On final, coming in for a landing!

Race planes parked at night at the airport. Well lit and under the watchful eye of Gavin, the son of Peter, one of the co-stop chairs.

Hoorah, our adopted baby birds, team #10 finally made it!

There was a small welcoming committee for them. Thanks to Gavin (front of plane) and all the other folks who were there at 11pm.

Arriving at the terminus

We made it to the terminus last night around 7:30pm. We flew the last three legs of the race in one go without stopping. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. Below are some photos of our flight and arrival at the terminus.

Enroute, sometimes there is just too much technology!

Oh Canada!!

We made it to Canada!!

Team ten (our adopted baby birds) are on the ground in Wausau with a bad magneto. Hoping they get it fixed in time,

The scenery on this leg was absolutely beautiful!
This is Jim DeGasparro. He is the operations manager and fire chief here at CYAM airport. He is also the stop chair here. He claims it is the first time in his life he has ever worn yellow, lol! Thanks Jim for your help!
Here's the fire department patch

And here we are with team #11 in Canada!
Can you believe I let a Maple Leafs fan fuel my aircraft?

Lee's Summit tunes and trip to Wausau

I didn't get a chance to post any photos from Wasaau so here are some photos.

This is Wayne and Ron. They were our send-off party in Lee's Summit. They had tunes blasting to keep us entertained.
